Speakers:
Connie Ping, ACMA, CGMA, Founder, Ping Financial Consulting Firm
Connie found Ping Financial Consulting Firm in 2017. Her firm specializes in providing M&A transaction services, CFO corporate finance services and special project management services to small to medium companies.
Before starting her own consulting firm, Connie had a 22-year progressive career in Royal Dutch Shell Group and later served as CFO and VP of Administration in a publicly listed company based in Calgary. She has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience in Merger & Acquisition (M&A) and commercial finance, JV finance, accounting and reporting, governance and risk management, contract and procurement, planning and budgeting, credit management, system implementation (SAP) and change management.
During her 22-year career in Shell, Connie spent 7 years in its global M&A department based in China and Canada. She has worked in a number of acquisition, divestment and joint venture projects, with first hand experience in deal structuring, due diligence, financial modelling and valuation, deal completion and post deal integration.
Connie obtained Master Degree of Strategic Business Management from Manchester Metropolitan University. She is a seasoned member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
George Tai, Partner, Dentons
George’s practice centers on mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate finance and corporate/commercial transactions, primarily in the energy and technology sectors. George also has extensive experience advising technology companies having successfully negotiated complex licensing contracts, service agreements and software development agreements domestically and internationally with numerous multinational original equipment manufacturers, telecommunications companies and software companies.
George has experience in structuring and negotiating international commercial transactions, advising a number of Canadian-based clients on transactions in Asia, and with Asian-based clients pursuing investments and business opportunities in Canada.
George has served as a director and a corporate secretary on a number of TSX and TSXV listed oil and gas companies, oil and gas service companies and technology companies.
Prior to joining Dentons as a partner, George was the financial managing partner of a Calgary-based mid-sized law firm. George held several leadership roles including Chief Operating Officer of a NASDAQ software company where he was responsible for operations of seven offices worldwide (four of which were in Asia) and subsequently appointed as Chairman of the Board. He was also the Co-Founder and Vice-President of a TSX listed venture capital mutual fund, advising the board of directors on investments in biotech companies, healthcare companies and software companies.
Michael Deng, Managing Director, GMP FirstEnergy
Michael Deng is Managing Director of Oil and Gas with GMP FirstEnergy, a preeminent energy focused investment bank. Michael works between Beijing and Calgary, and is responsible for covering the Chinese market. Michael has 20-year experience in various areas including accounting, auditing, international tax, equity research and investment banking. He started his career in Calgary at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the audit and tax groups. He joined Canaccord Genuity, a large Canadian independent investment bank, in 2003, as an Equity Research Associate covering mid cap high dividend oil and gas companies. He later started to focus on Chinese clients as a Research Analyst covering Canadian and US listed Chinese companies, until transferring to Canaccord’s Beijing office in 2011 to head the oil and gas business. In January 2014 Michael and some partners started GMP’s office in Beijing and Hong Kong. He has been mostly focused on outbound investment from China and cross border M&A transactions. Michael has an MBA from University of Alberta and Bachelor Degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University. He holds the Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Western Canada Innovation & Entrepreneurship Roadshow hosted by Canada China Commercial Association (CCCA) is a well received program in the Calgary Chinese community since its debut in 2017. It is a platform for ventures across Western Canada to showcase their business ideas and to connect with the investment community.
2018 marked the second year of the CCCA Roadshow program. Since its opening ceremony in April, 2018, CCCA Roadshow has organized a series events of workshops, seminars, mentoring sessions, focusing on business plan writing, business valuation. CCCA also hosted a special mini roadshow together with TusStar in June. The event was a great opportunity for ventures to interact with world class incubating specialists and venture capitalists.

CCCA is collaborating with University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business to achieve the goal of merging the university resource with the demand from entrepreneurs and beyond. With more involvements from professional business sector and younger generation for the 2018 CCCA Roadshow, the program will be more vibrant and can add more values to local businesses.
CCCA Roadshow becomes a hub for local entrepreneurs. During the program, CCCA will invite experts with legal, accounting, marketing, and technical background to provide professional training and coaching to help entrepreneurs shape their business ideas, optimize their business plans, and improve their roadshow presentation skills. 2018 CCCA Roadshow will evolve into a diversified and multicultural event. Kevin completed CPA Canada's 3 years In-Depth Tax program in 2017.

On March 16 2018, The Canada-China Commercial Association held our first Member Meet-Up in 2018 along with the Tax Seminar for the 2018 tax season which was presented by the tax expert Mr. Kevin Meng.
Mr. Kevin Meng has more than 25 years of accounting, auditing and tax experiences. Kevin is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in China and Canada, he is proficient also with both Canadian and Chinese Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
The Meet-Up was a full house with about 90 people and started with a light Chinese meal. During the meal, members had chances to greet and meet with each other. With the growing of a warm and friendly atmosphere, Vice Presidents Ray Yang and Rebecca Li gave welcome speech and an introduction of CCCA’s events plan in 2018, especially the 2018 Roadshow events.
From there, CCCA President Mr. Andy Wu introduced Mr. Kevin Meng and his Tax Seminar. Mr. Meng brought a lot of significant tax related information. He talked about general tax planning strategies and emphasized the tax strategies for small business, non-residents earning income, and real estate investment in Canada. The seminal last about 2 hours with group discussion and followed by Q&A.
After the Tax Seminar, all the members started their socialization. With the early greetings, the socialization went very well. Our members had conversations of their interest with each other and CCCA board members, the exchange of information and contacts breed the future opportunities, successes, and wealth.
The CCCA created a wonderful platform for businesses between China and Canada, and this Meet-Up is only the one of our events in 2018. Canada China Commercial Association (CCCA) is hosting its Annual Gala on January 20, 2018 at Petroleum Club in downtown Calgary. As usual, CCCA’s Annual Gala is a great opportunity to mingle and network with CCCA Board, members, event speakers and sponsors, Roadshow participants and people from supporting industry and community affiliates.
